MARBLEHEAD-The Marblehead Community Charter Public School is expecting some visitors this spring. The Massachusetts Charter Public School Association is including the MCCPS as one of three schools that other charter schools can tour this spring to view some successful programs.?The study tours focus on three aspects of expanded learning time that have shown to improve student achievement,” Academic Director Nina Cullen-Hamzeh said Friday. “We enthusiastically embrace all three n a longer school day for all students, the incorporation of enriching activities to broaden students’ educational experiences, and the investment of significant amounts of time in professional development.”?We here at MCCPS know that we’ve got a handle on some reforms that really make a difference for kids, so it’s great to be held up as an example of success.”The association says it is “excited” to offer Expanded Learning Time (ELT) Study Tours this May at three schools n Marblehead Community Charter Public School on Friday, Boston Preparatory Charter Public School on May 27 and Neighborhood House Charter School on May 28 n and seven schools will be offering them next year. The group is looking for more applicants to serve as tour schools. Each tour will also include a general overview of the school, a workshop, discussion with staff, networking and action planning.?The study tour is a pretty big deal for us,” Cullen-Hamzeh said. “We were selected from a pool of charter school applicants.” She said sharing the school?s best practices also meets part of the MCCPS obligation to the state and members of the faculty plan to visit the other schools.?We’re very pleased to have this opportunity to share what we do,” she said.
