Softball: Swampscott back on right track with win over Gloucester

The Swampscott High softball team rebounded from a tough loss to Salem Monday with an 8-3 win over Gloucester Tuesday at Gloucester.The Big Blue didn’t get a hit until the sixth inning and only mustered four in all, but it took full advantage of 15 walks. Marissa Gambale went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and Monica Mosho had a two-run double. Kirsten Vinal (6 hits, 8 strikeouts, no earned runs) got tougher as the game went on and ended up recording 13 consecutive outs beginning in the fourth inning.Swampscott (3-5 overall, 3-3 Northeastern Conference) is at Classical today.Salem 12, English 5At Salem, the Bulldogs struggled defensively and had a tough time stringing anything together against a hot Salem (7-2) team. English (3-4) scored four of its runs in the third inning before Salem pitcher Sarah Chasse (6 hits, 8 strikeouts, 5 walks) shut the door. Cara Crowley (hit, run, RBI), Lauren Walsh (hit, RBI) and Leanne Paula (hit) supplied the offense. Cathia Hernandez started for English and went three innings with Tiffany Drown going the final three.Salem hit the ball well, led by Ashley White (3-for-4, 3 runs, 2 RBI); Jessica Ngo (2 doubles, 2 RBI); Julia Jennings (2-for-4, 2 runs, RBI); Lindsay Trammell (2-for-2, run, 2 RBI), and Chasse (2-for-3).Danvers 7, Revere 3At Danvers, the undefeated Falcons (9-0, 6-0 Northeastern Conference) had to work hard to stay that way, only mustering four hits against 3-7 Revere. Danvers scored once in the first and second innings, added four in the third and one in the fifth.Diana Bean (9 hits, 4 strikeouts, walk, 3 earned runs) picked up the win.Revere had a couple of big hitters with Jenna Carabino (3-for-4 including a triple, 2 RBI, run); and Paige Licata (3-for-3, double, RBI).Mystic Valley 26, Tech 11At Malden, Shanel Bird had six strikeouts and played well defensively. Alissa Fournier played well at shortstop and drove in three runs on walks. Kimberly Reyes went 2-for-4 with two RBI. She also scored two runs. Tech is 0-9.
