NAHANT – The unseasonably hot temperatures brought waves of people to beaches in Nahant on Tuesday and a lot of beachgoers received parking tickets.Police Lt. Thomas F. Hutton said approximately 30 vehicles were ticketed on Tuesday for parking at the Lowlands, East Point, Town Wharf and Bailey’s Hill without the required resident parking sticker.Hutton said the police department fielded numerous calls on Tuesday from residents who were angry they received a ticket, but he said residents had ample time to get a valid 2009 resident parking sticker.”There is no grace period,” he said. “The 2008 resident parking stickers expired at midnight on Dec. 31, 2008. The new resident parking stickers have been available since January. There are no exceptions. People have to have a valid resident sticker when parking at one of the lots or their vehicles will be subject to be ticketed and towed.”Hutton said each parking ticket carries a $45 fine and the police would continue ticketing throughout the summer.”We’re trying to get the word out,” he said. “There is a concerted effort to tag and tow violators. There will be no exceptions.”The resident parking stickers are $5 each and are available in Town Hall, which is open Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Friday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
