MARBLEHEAD – Kristina Kyles, who has headed the town’s METCO program for the past two years, will be the new Marblehead High assistant principal and curriculum director coordinator, effective July 1.Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac announced his decision at last week’s School Committee meeting.Replacing new Marblehead Village School Principal Michael Hanna, she will combine the jobs of assistant Marblehead High principal in charge of instruction and curriculum director coordinator for Grades 7-12. She will spend half her time working for Dulac and half working for the new Marblehead High principal, who will replace the retiring John Ziergiebel. The high school already has an assistant principal in charge of discipline, Kathleen Duff.Dulac said Tuesday she will receive a salary “in the $90,000s.” The exact amount has not been negotiated.A former private sector CEO of a company called Houston Academics which helped high school students to find their best college match and a former social studies teacher and teacher leader in Framingham, she came to Marblehead two years ago.A doctoral candidate, she has described her on-the-job training as “drinking from a fire hose.””She has just done an outstanding job, she’s a tremendous education leader and she’s ready to jump in,” Dulac said. “She will continue to grow the goals for our classrooms.”The superintendent was advised by an eight-member search committee that included administrators, teachers and parents. Kyles was their unanimous choice. He said the only criticism he has heard so far is from “irate METCO parents.””She’s going to help me greatly in finding her replacement,” he said.
