Danvers teen dies after weekend car accident

DANVERS – The car accident that claimed the life of a 48 year old man on Saturday, has now claimed his teenage son as well.Steven Bekel, 15, was a passenger in his father’s Honda Civic that crashed head on into a telephone pole Saturday evening on Conant Street.Bekel, who was a student at St. John’s Prep in Danvers, was rushed to Boston Medical Center with serious injuries where he later died.On Sunday, St., John’s Prep held a candlelight vigil at its Peace Labrinyth to pray for Steve, his father, whose name was not released, and the Bekel family.The crash occurred near the southern entrance to Cherry Hill Drive and closed down Conant Street for more than three hours Saturday as police investigated the accident.According to police, the vehicle was headed south just before 5 p.m., when it veered across Conant Street and struck a telephone pole.The incident remains under investigation.
