SALEM – State Police Lt. Norman Zuk is no stranger to Lynn, having participated in the investigation of homicides, robberies and other violent crimes in the city since the mid-1980s.Essex County District Attorney Jonathan W. Blodgett on Tuesday promoted Zuk to lead the prosecutor’s Detective Division.Zuk replaces Elaine Gill, who retired after 27 years of distinguished service.”Lt. Zuk brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this position,” said Blodgett. “He has investigated some of the most complicated, high-profile cases in the county during his career and I know that under his leadership the detective division will continue to be one of the finest state police units in Massachusetts.”Zuk investigated the case of Leo Womack who was among the suspects charged with stabbing a Lynn man to death during the robbery of a drug house. He also played a key role in the case of a Lynn woman shot dead when a bullet was fired in an adjacent Market Street club, piercing the wall. The lieutenant began his career as a trooper with the Massachusetts State Police in 1982 and was assigned during his first four years on the job to the State Police barracks in Concord and Topsfield. In 1985, he had his first stint with the Detective Division, known as CPAC (Crime Prevention and Control Unit), where he would investigate murders and other felonies for the next 11 years.Zuk was promoted to sergeant in 1996. The following year, he left the Detective Division for other assignments at the State Police barracks in Andover and Newbury. He was later assigned to Logan International Airport. In 2003, Zuk was promoted to lieutenant and returned to the Essex District District Attorney’s Detective Division where for the past six years he has been involved in criminal investigations throughout the county.
