SWAMPSCOTT-A local institution has obtained an entertainment license from the town. The selectmen approved an entertainment license for the Swampscott Yacht Club, a private club, which is located in the town-owned Fish House.Town Administrator Andrew Maylor said the entertainment license allows the club to have entertainment until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until midnight on Friday and Saturday. He said is also stipulates the entertainment must be inside and could not be held outside.Maylor said the selectmen thought it was necessary to specific indoor entertainment only because the SYC is exploring building a deck on the second floor of the facility.Vice-Commodore Bob Sharpe the club wanted the entertainment license so it would not have to apply for a one day permit each time it had an event.?We don’t plan to have constant entertainment,” he said. “It will only be for special club social events. There will probably be very few times we will have music. The whole idea is to have it available when we need it.”The Fish House was built in 1895 on land that was deeded to the town for use by working fishermen. The Swampscott Yacht Club has leased the second floor of the building from the town for more than seven decades. In June 2004, yacht club and town signed a five-year lease with a five year option. The club pays the town $12, 000 a year and the yacht club assumed financial responsibility for cleaning and stocking the public restrooms in the building.
