Hot Dog Safari to benefit Cystic Fibrosis/The Joey Fund

The 20th annual Phantom Gourmet Hot Dog Safari (PGHDS), one of Boston’s premier family and charity events, is this Sunday (May 31) at Suffolk Downs in East Boston.The Hot Dog Safari (9 a.m.-4:30 p.m.), for the benefit of Cystic Fibrosis/The Joey Fund, is the creation of Eddie Andelman, the Godfather of Sports Radio, who this year passed the baton to his three sons from the popular Phantom Gourmet show? David, Michael and Dan.Andelman’s original Hot Dog Safari started with a bus ride for 200 people to the Windham Bar & Grill in Connecticut. It has steadily grown each year with thousands upon thousands now attending and last year more than $250,000 was raised, increasing its grand total to more than $3,250,000 since its inception.The Phantom Gourmet Hot Dog Safari includes plenty of food and soft drinks (hot dogs, sausages, Richardson’s ice cream, Dunkin’ Donuts, Nantucket Nectars, Entenmann’s, etc.), as well as a wide variety of fun activities for children, a full card of live horse races (12:45 p.m. post time) for adults, and live broadcasting from 1-3 PM on 96.9 WTKK FM Talk.Countless hot dogs plus sausages, cooked by members of the Massachusetts National Guard, are represented by the following companies: Kayem Brats, Fenway Franks, Fuddruckers, Sir Franks-A-Lot, Old Neighborhood and The Sausage Guy. Kowloon Restaurant will offer a unique “Chinese hot dog” and Harrow’s provides its famous chicken pies.Entertainment will be provided by Stevie Ray along with the It’s 2Cool dancers and the Rev Gals. Members of the Boston Bruins and several professional fighters, boxing and UFC, will be on hand for a meet-and-greet.Tickets, priced at $10 per person in advance , are still available at Fuddruckers in Saugus, Reading, Methuen and Andover.
