The Swampscott High boys lacrosse team has gone where no Swampscott High lacrosse team has gone before – the second round of the state tournament.The Big Blue defeated Nantucket, 12-9, Monday at Manning Field to advance to the East Division 3 semifinal against Scituate. The date and time have yet to be determined, but the game will be at Scituate.?This is the furthest the program has gone,” coach Josh Field said. “We?ve never won a second-round game. We?ve never advanced to the final four. That (the final four) was one of our goals. Our first was to win the Northeastern Conference (South).”A.J. Zarinsky had a monster game for the Big Blue, scoring seven goals. Zarinsky will be playing lacrosse at Springfield College next year. Ben Wollerscheid also had a productive day, scoring three goals and assisting on two others. John DeAngelis and Pat DeChillo each had one goal and Matt Nutter (14 saves) had another strong game in net.?These guys were a class act,” Field said about the Nantucket team. “They were very aggressive, very disciplined. They never gave up. They?re the type of team we?d like to play during the regular season.”SOFTBALLDanvers 6, Lincoln-Sudbury 1At Danvers, the 22-0 Falcons will face Woburn in the Division 1 North semifinals Thursday at Lowell (5). Danvers scored two runs in the first inning, three in the fourth and one in the sixth.Jill Carroll got things rolling with a two-run double in the first that scored Gabby Vega and Alicia Dean, who had both reached on singles. In the third, Hannah Demirodgen singled in a run and then she and Logan Carabello scored on Justine Pratt?s two-run single.Danvers topped off the tank in the sixth when Janelle Saggese, after fouling off a bunch of pitches, came through with an RBI double.Diana Bean was stingy with the hits, allowing only two and not walking a batter. She struck out five in seven innings. The run wasn?t earned.Newton North 2, Beverly 1At Newton North, the Panthers (14-7) couldn’t muster much of an attack on Newton North, getting only five hits, three of them with two outs in the top of the seventh. Kiki McKenna went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Monica Casola had an RBI single in the seventh. Beverly pitcher Sarah Pezzul0 took the loss, allowing five hits and one earned run in five innings. Beverly was the No. 14 seed and Newton North is the No. 11 seed.
