SWAMPSCOTT – A missing Swampscott man was found dead in a drain culvert across from the town Cemetery late Tuesday afternoon.According to Detective Sgt. Tim Cassidy, Alexander Kvachev, 50, of 29 Gooseneck Lane, was reported missing around 8 p.m. on May 31 by his brother-in-law, who said Kvachev had left his home around noon.”He went for a walk without his car keys and never returned home,” Cassidy said. “His friends found him expired in a drain culvert across from the cemetery at approximately 4 p.m. on Tuesday.”Steve O’Connell, spokesman for Essex County District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, said the prosecutor’s office is awaiting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Foul play, however, is not suspected.Cassidy said very few details are available regarding the victim or how he died.”It is unknown how long he has been there,” Cassidy said.Swampscott Police had registered Kvachev as a missing person and had planned a search for him along with the State Police canine unit, but the body was discovered just prior to the beginning of the 4:30 p.m. search, Cassidy said.”At 4 p.m., we got a call from some of his friends, who had been out looking for him telling us they found him.”It is unknown at this time whether the victim had suffered mental illness or depression.(Robin Kaminski contributed to this report.)
