Swampscott boys lax falls to Scituate

SCITUATE ? The Swampscott boys lacrosse team fell to Scituate, 19-7, in Division 3 East semifinal action at Scituate on Monday.”It was phenomenal for us to make it this far,” Swampscott coach Josh Field said. “I’m proud to be a part of this team.”Swampscott concluded the best year in the program’s history, finishing 19-3.Ben Wollerscheid had a hat trick for the Big Blue, while teammates John Poth and A.J. Zarinsky each scored twice. Zarinsky got some good news when he was named to the EMass all-star team.Greg Reynolds led all scorers with nine goals for top-seeded Scituate (16-5), which meets Dover-Sherborn in the East final at Harvard on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.On Monday, No. 4 Swampscott trailed 16-2 at halftime. Swampscott outscored Scituate 5-3 in the second half.”I think it was a great showing of sportsmanship by our kids,” Field said. “They could have folded, being down as much as we were down. This is how we want to finish a game.”Matt Nutter made eight saves for Swampscott. Freshman Tim Bradley replaced him in net in the second and third quarters before Nutter returned to action.Swampscott advanced to the semifinals by defeating Manchester-Essex, 12-10, in the first round and Nantucket, 12-9, in the quarterfinals. Scituate reached the semis by ousting Westwood in the first round (17-4) and Hanover in the quarterfinals (15-8).
