Lynn teachers union to hold election today

LYNN – The American Federation of Teachers Lynn Local 1037 will hold an election for constitutional officers, AFT Convention delegates, AFT Massachusetts Convention delegates and North Shore Labor Council delegates this afternoon from 2:30-4:30 at the Connery Post 6 American Legion Hall located at 157 North Common St.Teacher Thomas Tone will challenge President Alice Gunning for the top spot, marking the first time the presidential seat has been challenged since Gunning was first elected eight years ago.Current Sergeant at Arms Brant Duncan is vying for the first vice president position this year, challenging nominating committee choice Maryalice Sutherland, while present first vice president Paul Mailloux has been nominated for Duncan’s sergeant at arms position.Incumbent nominees include Second Vice President Catherine Deveney, Financial Secretary-Treasurer G. Donald White, Recording Secretary Diane Dawe and Corresponding Secretary Colleen McElligott Liporto.
