LYNN – On Saturday at 5 a.m., don’t be surprised if your electric clock stops dead, the refrigerator turns off and your computer crashes.National Grid, the utility company, is warning the electricity-consuming public that on June 13, from 5 a.m. to approximately 6 a.m., electrical service will be interrupted in several Lynn neighborhoods.”For our crews to work on our equipment safely, it will be necessary to interrupt your electrical service for approximately an hour. We regret the temporary inconvenience,” the utility explained in a prepared statement. “We are providing you and your neighbors with one week’s notice so that you may make any necessary provisions to minimize the discomfort associated with the temporary loss of power.”Many businesses have taken steps to accommodate or notify customers of the outage. For example, the Dunkin’ Donuts on the southbound side of the Lynnway posted signs on the entry doors, stating that the coffee won’t be ready until after 6 a.m. on Saturday instead of the usual 5 a.m.Streets and avenues affected by the planned outage include Alley Street, Andrew Street, Baldwin Street, Beacon Hill Avenue, Beede Avenue, Blossom Street Extension, Brightwood Terrace, Broad Street, Buffum Street, Exchange Street, Farrar Street, Fosdick Terrace, Franklin Street, Franklin-Hanover streets, Freeman Square, Harbor Street, Harwood Street, Johnson Street, Kensington Park, Lagrange Terrace, Lewis and Aubrey streets, Liberty Square and Liberty Street, Lloyd Street, the Lynnway, Kingman Street, Marine Boulevard, Market Square and Market Street, Monroe Street, Mount Vernon Street, Mulberry Street, Munroe Street, North Common Street, Nahant Street, Nahant Place, Neptune Boulevard, Newhall Street, Oxford Street, Oxford Terrace, Pleasant Street, Rogers Avenue, South Common Street, School Street, Shepard Street, Silsbee Street, Smith Street, Spring Street, State Street, Union Street, Van Buren Terrace, Varnum Street, Washington Street, Wheeler Street, Williams Avenue and Willow Street.The work will be rescheduled to Sunday, June 14, at the same time, in the event of inclement weather or if the outdoor temperature rises above 90 degrees or dips below 20 degrees Fahrenheit.National Grid customers with questions can call 800-322-3223.The outage is necessary for work crews to repair and upgrade the area’s electrical system. According to National Grid, many customers notify their security and alarm companies when notified of a planned outage. The company suggests customers shut down sensitive electronic equipment before the outage and restart the devices once power has been restored.National Grid does not provide emergency generators. The company recommends that customers on life-supporting electronic devices have backup systems to insure the continuous source of electricity. Customers should also leave their refrigerator or freezer doors closed during the outage since refrigerated food can stay cool for about six to nine hours. Frozen food can remain safe for up to 24 hours.
