Lynnfield native and former Austin Prep star running back Nathan Sherr is transferring from UConn to Mass. Maritime with a full slate of eligibility.”He likes the academics that are offered (at Mass. Maritime),” Sherr’s father, Bob Sherr, said on Monday. “He felt that he could fulfill what he wanted to do better at Mass. Maritime and will get to play more football as an added bonus. He almost went there initially.”Sherr broke the Massachusetts state scoring record back in 2006, and as a junior, he was named the Division 3 player of the year and Catholic Central League MVP.”He did very well in the scrimmages and spring games (at UConn),” Bob Sherr said. “It’s just not the right place to go as a walk-on. At that level, it’s very much a business and a lot of money on the line.”Sherr also plans on playing lacrosse next season.
