NAHANT – A new committee is being formed to take a look at a possible future expansion of the public library.Librarian Dan deStefano said he is pleased the Board of Library Trustees is taking the initiative and forming a building committee.”I think it’s a great thing for the town,” he said. “The building committee will try to discover what the future needs of the town are and put together a series of recommendations as to how the library can meet those needs in the future.”The Nahant Public Library was built in 1895 as a Town Hall and has undergone few modifications since it was converted to a library.George Richardson, who has been a library trustee in Nahant since 2001, said there is room to expand the library and it is something the town needs to start thinking about. He said he likes to refer to the library building committee that would be formed as the ‘imagination committee.””We want Nahanters to use their imagination as to the future of the building,” he said. “We want the committee to analyze what the future may hold and think about ways the library can be expanded and improved to bring it into the 21st Century. It will good to get the wonderful people of Nahant thinking about the future of the library.”Richardson said the trustees are in the process of putting together a committee now, which would consist of at least three members.”We’ll designate the committee and then turn them loose,” he said. “We’ll turn them loose to use their imagination and get input from the community.”
