REVERE – An East Boston man was listed in fair condition at Massachusetts General Hospital Friday afternoon after he was injured Thursday evening on Revere Beach Boulevard in the latest accident involving an elderly driver.Edward Regan, 31, was getting out of his car near 673 Revere Beach Boulevard when police said the Plymouth Voyager driven by Michele Veneziano, 30 Pleasant St. #407, Lynn, struck him. According to a State Police report, Regan sustained “visible but minor injuries.”The accident occurred at 8:20 p.m., seconds after witnesses said they saw Veneziano sideswipe a car parked about six houses away from where Regan was hit.”I was in my house and heard my son racing down the stairs, yelling. I threw something on, ran down and saw police and the old gentleman with his head bent walking back and forth,” said 651 Revere Beach resident Jan Sculla.According to a State Police report, Veneziano will be cited for marked lane violations, leaving the scene of an accident and negligent operation.Veneziano’s Registry of Motor Vehicle report lists a 1995 failure to stop offense and a 1982 surchargeable accident.Accidents involving older drivers, including a 4-year-old girl killed by an 89-year-old driver in June, have prompted calls for driver licensing and testing reform.State Rep. Lori Ehrlich, D-Marblehead, supports “in person testing” at five-year intervals for drivers 85 years and older.
