LYNN – Mayor Edward J. Clancy Jr. has ordered Lynn City Hall closed for the day Wednesday in recognition of former Mayor Patrick J. McManus’ funeral.”We should take this time Wednesday to reflect and remember the contributions of former Mayor McManus and his family to the city of Lynn,” he said in a statement. “On behalf of the city of Lynn, I offer our condolences to his family at this time.”McManus died suddenly Friday morning of an apparent heart attack in his Baltimore Street home. One of the longest tenured executives in city history, he served as mayor from 1992-2001 before stepping aside to spend more time with his family.At the time of his death, McManus was in the middle of an aggressive run to re-claim his seat from Clancy, who won the seat unopposed in 2001.Along with closing City Hall Wednesday, Clancy has temporarily suspended his campaign and postponed several scheduled events this week.City Council President Timothy Phelan has also announced that Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting would be postponed until next week in honor of McManus.Visiting hours for McManus will be held today from 2-8 p.m. at St. Pius V Church, located at 215 Maple St.A funeral Mass will take place Wednesday morning at 11 a.m. at the same location.At the request of family, in lieu of flowers, donations should be sent to: Cherish the Children c/o Robert Comito, 20 Wheeler St., Lynn, MA 01902.
