Lynn stunt rider amazes onlookers at age of six

Robin Kaminski

July 17, 2009 by Robin Kaminski

LYNN – Spinning around on his blue Yamaha ATV at upwards of 20 mph, Jakob Hill wows onlookers by performing stunts such as climbing on the handlebars of his dirt bike and doing one-handed doughnuts with ease, all at just 6 years old.Hill, a pint-sized “Evel Knievel” in his own right, began riding dirt bikes and ATVs when he was 3 years old after he begged his father, Bob Hill, to let him give it a shot.Standing just shy of three feet tall with a sheared mohawk and a constant smile, Hill bounces from one ATV to another in front on the family’s home on Lowell Street, eager to show off his signature moves to the neighborhood kids.Bob, who also grew up racing dirt bikes and motorcycles, said he was surprised when his son began to show interest in the sport at such a young age.”He would watch me on the bikes and kept throwing a fit when I said he was too young,” he said. “He just has a passion for the sport. I guess it runs in the family.”On July 21, Hill, who starts the first grade at Hood Elementary School this fall, will perform in a stunt show in Lowell, outfitted in duds courtesy of Parkway Cycle in Everett. The youngster will be allotted five minutes to show off his best moves in front of an undoubtedly fascinated crowd.”He will definitely be the smallest stunt rider there because you can’t get much younger than him and that’s what makes him different,” Bob said. “It’s more his passion than anything and I just want him to have fun. But, I always say safety first and I won’t let him do some of the tricks that he wants to do because most people doing these tricks are teenagers and adults.”Hill and his younger brother Arlin, 5, who also shares a love of riding dirt bikes with their sister Destiny, 9, and older brothers Curtis, 12, and Robert, 23, are known to frequently ride up and down their street.Dubbed the “Quad Racer Kid,” Hill blushed and smiled when asked what his favorite stunt was to perform.”All of them,” he said, before he bashfully pulled his helmet down and revving the engine of his yellow Suzuki dirt bike.”It’s crazy – he’s so young,” said next-door neighbor Serena Joshua. “He’s like famous around here and he’s friends with everybody. It’s really awesome what he does.”Hill has had his share of hair-raising moments in his all but short racing career, which include breaking his clavicle and the near constant bumps and bruises. But his dad said nothing can slow his son down, not even being plagued by a rare form of Leukemia called Histiocytosis.”He’s been on chemotherapy, but he’s doing better now,” Bob said. “It’s non-life threatening, but he’s been through a lot in his young age. He even wanted to get back on his bike the same day that he had chemotherapy.”After a somber moment, Hill flashed his signature smile and gave a high five to onlookers before he happily sped off on his bike.
