MARBLEHEAD – Thomas Desjardins is the interim principal at the Bell Elementary School for 2009-2010.Desjardins was named to that post by Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac. He has served as assistant principal at Marblehead Veterans Middle School for the past year. Before coming to Marblehead he served as assistant principal of the Nathaniel Bowditch School, a kindergarten-Grade 8 elementary school in Salem, and as a middle school teacher from 2003-2007 in Danvers and Andover. He was also an elementary school teacher in Punta Gorda, Fla., for 12 years, from 1991-2003.Desjardins said, “I am humbled by (this) privilege? I have worked diligently for the last 18 years at both the elementary and middle school levels to gain the skills necessary to assume the role of an instructional leader.”The interim principal said it is his “sincere desire to meet each and every parent and student prior to the opening of school in September. I am working with the PTO to schedule a “Meet the Principal” open house and look forward to getting to know your child.”Dulac said he was “excited” to have Desjardins take the reins.Former Principal Steve Medeiros is transferring to the Superintendent’s Office to work as a principal and administrative assistant for special projects.”Steve brings a good deal of management experience to assist the school district, specifically with the two building projects in full swing for the academic year 2010 at both the Village School and the Glover Elementary School,” Dulac said.Medeiros will also administer the security program and the Federal Stimulus Program for I.D.E.A. and Title I, among several other projects in the school district.”We thank Steve for his many years of service to the Bell School and look forward to his continued service in the central office,” Dulac said.A search committee will form around December, comprised of Bell School parents, teachers and community members to assist Dulac in hiring the Bell School principal for 2010-2011.
