LYNN – Lynn Police are looking for the suspect or suspects responsible for a mid-day shootout Thursday in one of the city’s busiest areas for afternoon foot traffic.Shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday, police received calls reporting two vehicles chasing one another in the vicinity of Jackson and Essex streets.According to callers, the occupants of one vehicle began shooting at the other, striking it several times.Responding officers found several spent shell casings on Ingalls Street and one near Jackson Street and began soliciting information from witnesses, which led police to a black vehicle that was stopped a short time later.The driver of the vehicle, a 26-year-old homeless male, formerly of Marblehead, was allegedly the intended victim and was found to have several gunshot holes in his vehicle.The victim could not identify his attackers, but police say they believe the attack is gang related.The investigation is ongoing and police ask that anyone who witnessed the incident contact the Lynn Police Department at 781-595-2000. Callers can remain anonymous.Police also responded to a report of shots fired at 15 Light St. on Wednesday. No one was hit but the residence at that address was hit by at least three gunshots. Officers found shell casings at the corner of Light and Hougton streets and a witness saw a silver Infinity speeding away from Light Street after the shooting.
