August 10, 2009 by jbutterworth

MARBLEHEAD-School Committee members can look forward to seeing reports on the status of the $27. 4 million budget regularly, starting in SeptemberSchool Business Manager Jonathan Goldfield told the committee at last week?s retreat that his budget system is “pretty flexible.”?You should get reports that show each account, rolled up into an area (of the budget),” Goldfield said. In other words, committee members can look at instructional program and other areas of spending as a group.Committee member asked if Goldfield could supply them with a final report on Fiscal 2009, showing what was actually spent.?We can do that,” said Superintendent of Schools Paul Dulac.Dulac also emphasized that each budget report will be accompanied by a one-page update narrating the budget changes, followed by the numbers. He warned that what he called “confidential personnel changes” will not be included in budget reports. “There are some things we may not want to make public,” he said.Committee member Jonathan Lederman asked if budget trandfers could be included in the reports.Committee Chair Dick Nohelty reminded him that committee members come to the office on Wednesdays to sign off on transfers. At least three committee members show up for the signings, constituting a committee vote in favor of them.Committee member Amy Drinker suggested that Dulac and Goldfield give the committee “as much head-up as possible, when you see things coming down the road.”
