LYNN-A midnight confrontation on Franklin Street turned violent early Wednesday morning when a Lynn man fired two shots at his neighbor in what he says was an act of self defense.Police say 26-year-old Conway Wright of 141 Franklin Street shot twice at his neighbor, 28-year-old Kasim Davis, after the two began arguing around midnight Wednesday. While Davis was not hit, he was wounded while trying to flee the scene.Wright is charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm, unlicensed possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building and assault to murder.According to court papers, police were called to Franklin Street just after midnight to a report of multiple gunshots in the area of Wright’s home.Upon arrival, police encountered Davis, who was bleeding from his left thumb, told police that someone had been shooting at him and he injured his thumb trying to run away.Davis, who just moved to the area from Queens, NY, alleges that he was leaving his house to walk to a store on Western Avenue when Wright confronted him at his door step and accused him of “watching him.”The two men began to yell and swear at each other until Davis walked away and attempted to go to the store. Realizing that the store was not open past midnight,Davis circled around to go back to his home and encountered Wright again when the confrontation took a violent turn.According to Davis, he was walking backward up his driveway to keep an eye on Wright when the suspect allegedly pulled out a hand gun and fired two shots at him, missing both times.Police searching the area found two empty shell casings in an area consistent with Davis’ story and placed Wright under arrest a short time later.Once at the station, Davis positively identified Wright as the man who attacked him.Wright first denied having a gun or firing it at Davis, but when pressed, broke down in tears and admitted to firing the gun only in self defense after Davis had fired at him. After an initial resistance, Wright agreed to lead police to the firearms in his apartment, but insisted that Davis was also in possession of a gun. Police located the firearms in Wright’s apartment.Police also agreed that the injury to Davis’ hand could be consistent with a slide gun as it racks during firing. Police asked Davis if he was left or right handed, to which he answered “left” furthering suspicions that his injuries could have been related to firing a gun.Davis allowed police into his home where they searched his bedroom and found a blue gun case, but no gun. Davis told police that the gun case was not his, as he had just moved in to the apartment from New York.Police also confiscated two bags of marijuana from Davis’ apartment, but he was not charged.Wright was arraigned Wednesday in Lynn District Court and held on $10,000 bail.
