LYNN – Children from the Greater Lynn YMCA Summer Camp Program explored their own personal health and the science of eye exams during a field trip to the Lynn Community Health Center this month. The LCHC has just opened a new eye clinic, and doctors welcomed 14 summer camp students to the office of Eye Care Services Director Joyce Chien, where they received a tour of the clinic.Children learned about each piece of optometry equipment in the office, and received a complimentary vision screening followed by a question and answer session with the doctor.Students Kevin Mathers and Andrew Bodwell from the New England Eye Institute performed eye screenings along with Chien. Louisa Gil-Sanchez and Mayra Clark staff members of LCHC also were present. The event was organized as a part of National Health Center Week, an annual event celebrated by more than 1,200 Community Health Centers in the United States that serve more than 18 million people. With several locations in the downtown area, the LCHC provides a comprehensive array of health care services to patients in the community, a group that has risen to more than 30,000 people every year.In April the health center opened a new eye clinic that has three exam rooms, special testing equipment and an optical shop. It is open to anyone in the Lynn Community.”The Lynn YMCA’s School Age Child Care Program, which serves 160 children, is thrilled to be offered this most generous opportunity from LCHC,” said YMCA’s School Age Child Care Director Tony Bellerose.
