Lynn barbers battle turns into a scissors skirmish

August 14, 2009 by Thor Jourgensen

LYNN – A battle between barbers in broad daylight sent a 24-year-old man to Massachusetts General Hospital with a stab wound to the chest Thursday and police hunting for his scissor-wielding assailant.Co-workers of Wilson Reyes at the Zone barber shop on Broad Street said the bloody drama unfolded mid-morning when Reyes answered a telephone call in the shop that quickly turned argumentative. He walked out of the shop and up Broad Street to Lewis where witnesses said he confronted another man cutting hair in Beyni Hair Salon. The two fought as a group of young men looked on. The fight worked its way down Lewis Street to the front door of Professional Beauty Salon where Reyes was stabbed in the chest. Witnesses said the stabber fled in a car and police were looking for a 2006 red BMW registered to a Salem address.Reyes? Zone co-worker, who declined to be identified, speculated the argument centered on a woman.Although co-workers said he lives in Lynn, Reyes? aunt, Esther Ledesma, said he has been living in Marblehead. Reyes attended English High School, she said, but did not finish school.?He?s had his ups and downs but no problems that I know of,” Ledesma said.Police roped yellow crime tape around Professional Beauty and two adjoining businesses while Reyes? clothes, including jeans and a blood-soaked T-shirt, lay on the sidewalk where ambulance workers had cut them off.News of the stabbing surprised neighbor Hong Nguyen who said neighbors report any signs of crime, typically speeders, to police.?It really makes you wonder. In the old days, there was less crime compared to today,” she said.
