LYNN – Two area construction workers didn’t have much time to enjoy a day off Thursday, as Fenton Avenue residents blew the whistle on a mid-morning robbery that landed both men in jail.Police did not have a hard time apprehending 24-year-old Mark Bentley, 74 Lincoln Ave., Saugus, or his accomplice, 29-year-old Kenneth Williams, 18 Lewis Place, Lynn, Thursday as neighbors led them right to a robbery in progress at 48 Fenton Ave. just after 9:30 a.m.Both men were charged with breaking and entering in the daytime for the purpose of committing a felony and Bentley was hit with an additional charge of possessing burglary tools.The men were arraigned in Lynn District Court Monday and were released until a future pre-trial hearing.According to police reports, an anonymous neighbor called police when she witnessed one man, later identified as Bentley, break a basement window at the home and crawl into the house while Williams waited in the driveway in a brown minivan.The slow-moving robbery was still taking place when officers arrived a few minutes later, blocking the van in the driveway.Police approached the window of the van and began to question Williams, who was visibly nervous and admitted that Bentley was in the house and that the pair had been looking for scrap metal.Police surrounded the home and asked Williams to call Bentley and ask him to come out, which he did, at which point he was placed under arrest.Upon searching the minivan, police found a variety of tools that suggest the men were out to rob homes that day, including several screw drivers, a flash light and rawhide gloves.Police say the two men are not being investigated in conjunction with any other robberies in the area.
