Designed to showcase top local talent, the Lynn Invitational baseball tournament held six games this past weekend at Fraser Field.”Kids from all over New England, the best talent around, get exposure before college coaches and pro scouts,” organizer Joel Karakaedos said on Sunday. The tournament features four teams, and the players on each team were nominated by college and pro scouts along with high school and summer coaches. More than 350 players were nominated, with only about 100 or so being accepted. All four teams played doubleheaders on the first day, with each team playing one game Sunday.”We try not to keep results,” Karakaedos said, adding that the goal is to show the players performing in a game experience to college and professional representatives. The tournament all-star game takes place Tuesday at Fraser (6).Karakaedos said that the top performers over the weekend included three Lynn players – Alex Fiste of St. Mary’s, Brian Maynard of Lynn English, and Roberto Reyes of Lynn English.Among the colleges represented were Maine, St. John’s, BC, URI, Dartmouth, UMass-Amherst, Wheaton, Northeastern, Brandeis, San Jacinto (Texas), Florida International University, Keene State, and St. Joseph’s (Maine).Karakaedos, who organizes the tournament with Tim Fila, said, “We couldn’t do it without all the coaches who volunteer to help.”This is the tournament’s fifth year.
