SALEM – A Lynn asbestos remover who admitted he threatened to commit a crime will spend six months in jail.Chhoeut Chin, 37, of 541 Essex St., Lynn, changed his plea to guilty Thursday morning in Salem Superior Court to a charge of threatening to commit a crime.Judge Howard J. Whitehead agreed to impose the recommended sentence offered by Assistant District Attorney Michael Sheehan and defense lawyer Randi Potash.Sheehan said the charge stems from an incident in Lynn on March 29 when Chin went to his 35-year-old ex-girlfriend’s home on Chestnut Street and began a verbal confrontation with her new boyfriend outside. She interceded and Chin told her “he was going to destroy her apartment and kill both of her two children,” which are not his, Sheehan said.Chin was arrested and has been held in custody since March. The judge credited him the 151 days he has spent awaiting trial on the case.An Essex County grand jury indicted him in June.
