The Lynnfield High boys soccer team lost to Hamilton-Wenham three times last season, all by one goal, so a 1-1 tie against a team that reached the state final might seem like a moral victory of sorts. It wasn’t.Lynnfield coach Brent Munroe and his troops were looking for a win.”It was a little disappointing for us,” Munroe said. “It was a good game. We had more chances. We just didn’t connect. We weren’t thrilled with the tie.”Lynnfield carried play in the first half with Andy Milinazzo scoring from Steve Knox about seven minutes into the game. Hamilton-Wenham tied things up before the half and that was it as far as the scoring went for both teams. Jerry Reid played well in net for the Pioneers (1-0-1).Williams 6, St. Mary’s 4At Manning Field, the score was tied 2-2 at the half, but Archbishop Williams took charge after the break. St. Mary’s had goals by Julian Yourawski (goal, assist); Ralph Bertrand (goal, assist); Chris Leone; and Nick Gagliolo. Rob Goggin (23 saves) was in net. The Spartans are 1-2 with Fenwick on tap for Wednesday.GIRLS SOCCERSt. Mary’s 3, Williams 1At Braintree, the Spartans (3-0 overall) sustained the momentum that built up with two wins in the Lynn City Championship. Freshman Maggie Carey got the ball rolling with a goal early in the first half. Eighth-grader Carol DiMaiti bumped the lead up to 2-0 with a goal 18 minutes into the second half and Michelle Macchione capped the scoring with about 10 minutes remaining in the game.Angela Dandreo had a busy afternoon in net with 12 saves.”I think we’re playing well,” St. Mary’s coach Jim Foley said, citing in particular the effort of his defenders, Brenna Huffman, Bria Prophete and Kristin Moccia. Kirsten Ferrari also played well.Lynnfield 4, Ham.-Wenham 2At Hamilton, Jamie Harris went on a scoring spree for the Pioneers, netting three of her team’s four goals. She assisted on the other goal, which was scored by Brittany Hunt.Lynnfield (2-0) peppered the Hamilton-Wenham net all night, getting off 29 shots.”Good things happen when you shoot,” Lynnfield coach Mark Vermont said.Mackenzie Dolbeare and Lauren McCarthy also had assists, while goalie Nareh Sahakian held down the fort in net with six saves.
