Freshman Haley Dowd made her high school soccer debut a memorable one, scoring three goals to lead the Peabody High girls soccer team to a 6-1 win over English at Peabody. The Tanners (1-0) only led 1-0 through the first 30 minutes, but then the floodgates opened with Angela Ellison (goal, 2 assists); Emily Manoogian (goal, assist) and Victoria DiGiacomo (goal, assist) providing some additional firepower. Kara DiGiacomo played well on defense.”They just dominated,” English coach Ed McNeil said. “They spread it out. The Dowd kid really impressed me.”English’s goal was by senior captain Megan Forti, who accounted for all the Bulldogs’ (1-2) scoring opportunities. Sara Hinkle had the assist. The Bulldogs are 1-2. Peabody is coming off a 15-4-1 season.Swampscott 2, Saugus 0At Anna Parker Field, Taylor Eaton and Jen Cleary scored for the Big Blue. Prior to the start of the game, the Saugus girls unveiled a sign in memory of their late coach Ted Moriello, who died shortly after the 2008 season from cancer.Salem 6, Classical 0At Bertram Field, the Witches (2-0) had plenty of firepower with Desiree DeLeon and Sarah Felton each scoring two goals and Ashley Maccario and Caitlin Murtaugh collecting a goal and assist each. Emma Titus and Lindsay Trammell split the game in net. Classical falls to 1-2.Beverly 1, Revere 0At Revere, the Panthers scored the game-winner on a free kick. The Patriots had strong performances from Chelsea Amaya at outside midfielder and sweeper and goalie Melissa Adreani, who had a boatload of big saves.Gloucester 3, Marblehead 1At Gloucester, the Fishermen stunned the Magicians (0-1), who struggled offensively all game. Mary Keroack scored Marblehead’s only goal (unassisted).Danvers 8, Winthrop 0At Danvers, the defending Northeastern Conference South champions picked up where they left off. Corey Persson and Brittany Russo each had two goals with Becky Landers, Allie Lea, Christie Kacynski and Gabby Vega adding one each. Last year, Danvers received a bye, then lost to Belmont in the state tournament. Danvers has won the south title the last three years and the NEC overall the previous three years.
