Nothing goes right for Revere in loss to Medford

September 19, 2009 by Matthew Roy

MEDFORD – It was not one of those games to remember for the Revere football team on Friday at Hormel Stadium. The Patriots came in off a double overtime win over Northeast Regional in its opener and laid the proverbial egg against a motivated Medford team on Friday. The Mustangs forced five turnovers and broke open a close game with 20 second quarter points on the way to a 33-0 win in its season opener.”We didn’t come to play, it’s as simple as that,” Revere coach Lou Cicatelli said. “We didn’t show up until the second half and we got physically dominated in every point.”Medford set the tone for the night immediately when Giovani Sanders returned the opening kickoff 45 yards to the Revere 43. Three plays later, Phil Chery swept around left end for a 28 yard touchdown and a 6-0 lead just 1:45 in.After Revere punted on its first possession, Medford fumbled and the Patriots recovered at their 49.But the Medford defense held firm and forced a punt late in the quarter. The Mustangs took over at their 21 with 1:20 left in the first and went to a no-huddle, hurry-up offense. Fullback Patrick Barry and Sanders did most of the damage on a 12 play, 79 yard drive that was capped when quarterback Alex Krasco threw a strike to a wide open Jimmy Richardson for a 31 yard touchdown and a 12-0 lead.Things went from bad to worse for Revere on its next possession when Ronald Pitterson recorded the first of three interceptions against Paul Norton.Seven plays later, Krasco closed a 45 yard march with an 18-yard pass to tight end Alec Finn for a 20-0 lead.”We were just flat as a pancake,” Cicatelli said.Moments later, it only got worse for Revere as Trae Weathers fumbled on the first snap of the Patriots next possession and Medford recovered at the 26.A 23-yard pass from Krasco to Chery helped the Mustangs convert on second-and-22. Three plays later, Krasco kept on an option play and dove in from the three for a 26-0 halftime lead.Revere got the ball to begin the second half and used a 16-yard jaunt by Weathers to reach Medford territory. The drive eventually reached the Mustang 35 where the Medford defense rose up and stuffed the Patriots to force a turnover on downs.Scooby Mageza got the ball right back for Revere when he intercepted Krasco at the Revere 40.A 26-yard Norton to Weathers connection moved the ball to the Mustang 31 but a holding penalty and four incompletions stopped the drive. It was still 26-0 in the fourth when the Mustangs salted this one away after another Revere fumble. Sanders blasted off tackle for a 12 yard gain to the Medford 45.Chery then did the rest, racing the rema ining 55 yards for his second touchdown of the night.
