LYNN -The Lynn Tech football squad received stellar play in all three areas-offense, defense, and special teams-right from the start on Saturday night against Marian. The Tigers scored on their first four possessions, opening a big lead, and holding on to corral the Mustangs, 36-24 at Manning Field.Tech didn’t waste much time establishing control. On Marian’s first play after the kickoff, the snap from center went between the legs of quarterback Miguel Ortiz, and was pounced upon by Tigers lineman Alex Quinton at the Mustang 11. Halfback Steven Caisse brought the ball into the end zone with only 22 seconds gone for a 6-0 Tech edge.Ortiz (19-38-2-205) did his best to bring Marian back, as the club picked up three first downs on its following possession. The big play was a 13-yard completion to receiver Trevor Rabidou to the Tigers 30. However, the drive stalled at the 26, and Tech (2-0) took advantage. On third-and-five from their 41, quarterback Dustin Rooney found teammate Joe Brady along the far sidelines for 44 yards to the 15. Caisse (13-110) picked up his second score on the following play to increase the lead to 14-0.”That was a big play,” said Tigers coach Gary Sverker about the strike from Rooney to Brady. “Dustin hit Joe in perfect stride on third-and-long, and that gave us great field position.”Marian (1-1) again marched downfield, with the 13-play, 70-yard drive culminating in a two-yard score by halfback Bill Kinsherf shortly into the second quarter to bring the Mustangs to within 14-6. Yet the Tigers would soon add their third score in as many possessions. The key play was a 40-yard jaunt by back Ryan Murphy (18-175) down to the Marian two. Caisse notched his third touchdown two plays later to increase the lead to 20-6.Tech’s defense got the ball back when Caisse picked off Ortiz in Tiger territory on Marian’s next possession. Murphy scored on an 11-yarder moments later to give Tech a 28-6 halftime advantage. The Mustangs crept to 28-12 on a 32-yard interception return by lineman Dan Hiers, but Murphy promptly replied with a 45-yard burst through the Marian defense for the final Tech points. The Mustangs scored a pair of touchdowns in the fourth periosd to close out the scoring.”Our offensive line opened up for Murphy and Caisse to get their yards,” said Sverker. “And it was great to see the whole team get involved in the scoring.”
