Cross country: Prep uses its depth against Catholic Memorial

The St. John’s Prep cross country team called on its depth to pull out a 21-38 win over Catholic Memorial Tuesday at Franklin Park.CM’s Ed Colvin led the way with a winning time of 16:29 on the 3.1-mile course, but the Eagles took the second, third and fourth spots, led by A.J. Rossi (16:39). Ben Halpin finished third (17:28) and John Flanagan fourth (17:39).”It wasn’t the prettiest of victories, but nonetheless we got the job done,” Prep coach Ray Carey said.St. John’s (2-0) runs again Saturday at the Ocean State Invitational in Rhode Island.Swampscott 18, Lynn English 43At Lynn Woods, Swampscott’s Jake Comcacy led the way for the Big Blue (2-0) with a first-place time of 18:31. Nick Hartmann finished second (18:41) and Steve Baziant, third (18:46).Fenwick 18, Marian 41At Peabody, Fenwick’s Bill Harrington took first (17:19) followed by teammates Andrew Young (18:21), Joe O’Brien (18:28) and Kevin Fini (18:31). Fenwick is 2-0.Peabody 18, Danvers 45At Peabody, Nick Christensen set the pace by recording the second-best time ever on the course. His 14:36 was six seconds off the all-time course record. D.J. D’Amato finished in second place (15:02). Evan Braz finished in fourth place (15:47). For Danvers, Robert Chapruet finished in third place (15:23). Peabody is now 2-0.In other action, Gloucester defeated Revere, 15-50.GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYMarian 20, Bishop Fenwick 37At Peabody, Bishop Fenwick’s Marial Quezada had a good outing, finishing third (22:29). Marissa O’Brien took sixth (25:14) and Megan Woodcock, seventh (26:27). Fenwick is now 1-1.Swampscott 15, Lynn English 50At Lynn Woods, Amelia Antrim led the way for Swampscott over this three-mile course. Antrim finished in first place (22:13). Finishing close together in second and third place were Michaela Kancsy (23:22) and Niki Lascars (23:27).Danvers 24, Peabody 33At Peabody, Haley Dyer took home first place (18:17) while teammates Brittani Atkinson finished second (18:37) and Rachael Kaczynski, fourth (19:30). Jen Pickard took third (18:56) for Peabody.
