School roundup: St. John’s golf wins league battle

The St. John’s Prep golf team won an early-season Catholic Conference showdown with a 243-251 win over BC High Wednesday at Wollaston Golf Course.The “Nick” contingent got the job done, with Nick McLaughlin shooting a 1-over 37, Nick Pandelena, a 38 and Nick Velonis and Nick Maccario, a 39.Both teams were undefeated heading into the match. The Prep is now 6-0 overall, 3-0 in the conference, and BC High is 5-1, 3-1.Prep coach Larry O’Neill said it’s nice to get the first one against a league rival.”They’ll have to come to Salem Country Club to play us. It’s really tough to win there,” he said.Swampscott 40, Salem 32At Tedesco Country Club, the Big Blue (4-0) continue to roll right along. Alex Patkin won 6-3 at the No. 1 spot and was medalist with a 38. The boys are 2-3.Marblehead 15, Classical 50At Lynn Woods, although the Rams finished out of the money, it was still an exciting race as Marblehead’s top three runners were neck-and-neck heading to the finish line. Sean Mitchell won with a 19:20 on the three-mile course, followed by James Wigglesworth 919:21) and Will Herlihy (19:22). The Magicians are 2-0.Perry Raymond was the top finisher for Classical at 16th (21:12), followed by Brian Sandiford, 17th (21:21), and Lewis Diaz, 20th (21:30).VOLLEYBALLPeabody 3, Lynnfield 0At Lynnfield, the Tanners (4-2) won 25-16, 25-17 and 15-19. Janelle Rodriguez had 11 kills, Ginny Fleming, three kills, Briana Woldrop, four kills and two aces, and Emily Rubin, 10 digs.Ham.-Wen. 3, Revere 1At Hamilton-Wenham, the Generals won the first two games, 25-13, 25-13. Revere took the third, 25-23, but Hamilton-Wenham took game four, 25-16. Revere is 3-3 in the NEC/CAL and 4-3 overall.
