Boys Soccer: Second-half explosion leads Fenwick over Austin

After struggling through the first half against Austin Prep Monday, Bishop Fenwick found its offense in a big way in the final 40 minutes.Fenwick rattled off the game’s last four goals and used a stingy defense to hold the Cougars at bay en route to a 5-1 win in Peabody.”We really poured it on in the second half,” Fenwick coach Andrew Bub said. “We really played fantastic.”Doug Garabedian got the Crusaders started with an unassisted goal. Artie Newman made it 3-1, assisted by Brandon Ballard, before Joey Flahery upped the gap to three. Ballard got his second goal of the game, assisted by Newman, to close the scoring.English 3, Saugus 1At Manning Field, the Bulldogs (4-4-1) got a pair of goals from Leo Awokang and a goal and an assist from Alex Mulbah against the Sachems (1-7).Jefferson Obellah had an assist for English. Saugus’ goal came in the first half off the foot of Carmen Bordanaro, assisted by Ryan Chisholm.”We turned it on in the second half,” English coach Kerry King said.Danvers 4, Peabody 4At Peabody, a battle of NEC unbeatens turned into a track meet as the Tanners (6-0-2) scored the first two goals of the game and saw Danvers sharpshooter Chris Ciampa rattle off the next three before coming back twice from one-goal deficits in the second half.Lucas DeOliveira and Matt Rodgers staked Peabody to the early lead. Kyle Maglone assisted on the first goal with DeOliveira getting the helper on Rodgers’ tally.McGlone tied the game at 3-3 with 10 minutes to go and DeOliveira got his second of the game, assisted by Maglone, with six minutes left to tie. Ciampa had all four Danvers (7-2-1) goals.Spellman 7, St. Mary’s 0At Manning Field, the Spartans (1-7-1) dominated most of the first 20 minutes but couldn’t put a goal home despite ringing a couple of crossbars and having several quality chances.Marblehead 3, Revere 1At Revere, Marblehead’s Ellery Smith scored on the Magicians’ (6-1-2) lone shot of the first half to give his team a 1-0 lead at the break.After Revere tied the game in the second half, Oliver Kim and Billy Wyman scored goals three minutes apart to get the Magicians over the hump.Mark Imber was outstanding in goal, turning aside 12 of 13 shots.Salem 2, Winthrop 0At Salem, Edwin DeMoya took care of the goal-scoring for the Witches (5-4-1). Nuur Mohamed and Marco Carbajal each had an assist;Dan McCarthy made six saves.
