Field Hockey: Peabody, Marblehead finish with scoreless tie

In what can only be described as a defensive showdown, Peabody and Marblehead’s field hockey teams finished with a 0-0 tie.”We haven’t had many goals scored on us this year,” Tanners coach Barbara Damon said, “We have played some strong defense. It was really a defensive battle out there.”Captains Andrea Saccardo, Christina Simoes and Morgan Yeo all had strong defensive performances for Peabody. Emily Karras, Kim Lupo and Kate Minzi also had strong games.When called upon, Brittany Costa made several scintillating saves.Kayla Casale had eight saves for Marblehead. Caroline McCarthy and Courtney Maher played well for Marblehead on offense, while Lauren Turner and Gretchen Rowe played well in the midfield and Hannah Wolf and Casey Sheehan impressed on defense.Peabody’s record went to 4-1-4, while the Magicians’ record went to 5-1-3.Fenwick 4, Notre Dame 0At Hingham, Kelly Moran, Kristen O’Connell and Candace Ferry each scored a goal and an assist to lead the Crusaders (6-1-1). Liz Sears scored the fourth goal. Casey Landry turned away nine shots.Saugus 4, Salem 0At Salem, Jackie Doherty netted a pair of goals to lead the Sachems (7-2-1). Courtney McTague and Lauren Sanford scored the other two goals. Amanda Luongo turned away both shots she faced. Saugus sits only three points out of the tournament.Danvers 3, Revere 0At Revere, Taryn Pydynkowski scored a goal and an assist for the Falcons (4-4-1, 5-4-1). Karly Stewart and Stephanie Costa scored the other goals. Sara Perry picked an assist. Aurora Christo made five saves. Midfielder Rebecca Leslie and forward Katia Huuskonen had strong performances.Swampscott 3, Gloucester 3At Gloucester, Stasia Beaulieu scored a goal and an assist to lead the Big Blue (5-2-3). Alex Wilson and Julieanne Marquis scored the other goals. Taylor Maccario and Alexa Steriti picked up assists. Olivia Cohen had a great defensive game. She even made three saves, even though she wasn’t playing goalie.
