PEABODY – Let’s just say that Alex Crecco put in a good day’s work in Bishop Fenwick’s 30-15 win over Georgetown Friday at Donaldson Field. All the senior running back from Ipswich did was score all four of his team’s touchdowns and rush for a conversion. He accounted for 26 of the Crusaders’ 30 points and when the dust settled, he had racked up some respectable mileage (15 carries, 126 yards).”Our offensive line opened up some nice holes for him,” Fenwick coach Dave Woods said. “And when they didn’t, he made some nice plays of his own.”Crecco also credited his line with providing him some nice running room.”My line opened up some big holes for me,” he said. The Crusaders were a team on a mission in the first half. On the opening drive of the game, they marched 60 yards on eight plays with Crecco finishing things off with an 8-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Chris Renzulli, who threw a 29-yard pass to Pat Lyons to keep the drive alive on second-and-14, ran it in for the conversion.Fenwick struck again on its next possession after starting the drive on the Georgetown 32. Crecco had a big 10-yard pickup on third-and-five at the 15 and two plays later, charged in from the four. Renzulli ran for the conversion again, putting Fenwick in the driver’s seat with a 16-0 lead. The Royals regrouped on their next drive, led by senior Chris Esposito, who accounted for all the Georgetown rushing yardage (76 yards) in the first half. He also connected on three of four passes for 26 yards in the air. On the Royals’ opening drive of the second quarter, Esposito found Tyler Wade with a 7-yard touchdown pass. He had several big runs (24 yards, 13 yards and 12 yards) and a 14-yard pass to Derek DePasquale to put Georgetown on the seven.”Defensively we were in position all night,” Woods said, referring to Esposito. “He’s a tough kid to tackle. He broke some tackles and he turned some broken plays into big plays.”Fenwick turned a 16-6 lead into a 22-6 lead at the half on a second-quarter drive that started at the Crusader 23. Renzulli put his team in Royal territory with a 23-yard pass to Pat Lyons and then turned the ball over to Nick Corbett of Lynn, who kept things moving with runs of 13 yards and 21 yards. Crecco sealed the deal with a 13-yard touchdown run.The second half was considerably quieter until Georgetown tackled Renzulli in the end zone for a safety. Esposito struck again with a 9-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter to cut the Fenwick lead to 22-15, but Crecco got in the final word when he scored on a 55-yard run on third-and-one on the Crusaders’ next possession. Crecco ran for the conversion and the 30-15 final.”Today I think if we played the first half like we played the second half, it could have been a completely different ballgame,” Georgetown coach Matt Bouchard said.Fenwick (3-3) finished with 219 yards on 38 carries. Renzulli went 4-for-6 for 69 yards passing. Lyons caught two passes for 52 yards. Esposito picked up 134 yards on 19 carries. Georgetown (0-5) had 169 yards rushing.”There’s no question that Fenwick has some talented, dynamic players who can not only beat you from the inside, but the perimeter as well. It makes it difficult for the defensive coordinator,” Bouchard said, referring to Crecco’s performance.
