The Charlotte Bobcats of the National Basketball Association have waived former Lynn Tech and University of Memphis star Antonio Anderson. The move was part of a busy day for the Bobcats. Before waiving Anderson, an undrafted 6-6 rookie guard, the team waived fellow guard Dontell Jefferson. The cuts trimmed the Charlotte roster to 14 players, one fewer than the 15 maximum spots on a regular-season team roster.Marvin Avery, Anderson’s coach at Tech, said that it looks like Anderson will head overseas in a couple of weeks, but the destination is unclear as of now.”I’m not sure where yet,” Avery said. The move came one day before the Bobcats wrapped up their preseason – ironically, against a team from Memphis. Charlotte plays the Memphis Grizzlies Friday morning (10:30) at the Bobcats’ home court, Time Warner Cable Arena. The Bobcats will start their NBA regular season against another team familiar to Anderson ? his hometown Boston Celtics, at the TD Garden next Wednesday (7:30).Anderson, 24, had a promising start in the preseason before his numbers decreased. He opened with seven points, four assists and two steals in 20 minutes in a 92-87 loss to LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal and the Cleveland Cavaliers at Quicken Loans Arena on Oct. 6.That, however, proved his high point. Bobcats coach Larry Brown did not play him in the team’s next game, a 108-101 win over the New Orleans Hornets in Charlotte two days later. He returned to post five points and two rebounds in 13 minutes in a 102-96 loss to the Cavs at home on Oct. 10, but he managed just three points and turned the ball over three times in 20 minutes of a 107-90 loss to Atlanta at Philips Arena on Oct. 12 – a game in which Brown was ejected. (Anderson did add three assists and two steals.)Brown made Anderson a DNP again in a 91-87 loss to the defending champion Los Angeles Lakers at Staples Center last Saturday before he came back the next day to score two points in 12 minutes of a 110-103 loss to the Utah Jazz at home. Anderson was held scoreless in six minutes of what proved to be his finale with Charlotte, a 94-87 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.
