McDonald’s five TD’s lead English to easy win over Revere

LYNN – With potentially one of the biggest games the Lynn English football team has had in almost two decades on the horizon against Gloucester next week, the Bulldogs came to Manning Field on Friday looking to open their NEC North schedule with a win over Revere. And thanks to quarterback Tyllor McDonald, the Bulldogs did not get caught looking ahead to the showdown at Newell Stadium.McDonald accounted for five touchdowns, four of them on touchdown passes to four different receivers, and 233 of English’s 354 total yards in a 40-0 blanking of the Patriots.”We talked about Gloucester this week,” English coach Peter Holey said. “But we did it in the context that the game would mean nothing if we took ourselves out of it by not winning this week.”English’s speed and athletic ability were simply too much for the Patriots to overcome. Revere netted only 27 yards on 23 rushes and committed five turnovers in the contest. Quarterback Paul Norton was picked off twice and was under constant duress from the Bulldogs’ pass rush.”Their speed is just amazing,” Revere coach Lou Cicatelli said. “That is clearly the best team that we’ve played this year. Their team speed was just way too fast for us (Friday).”The tone was set from the beginning as the Bulldogs (6-1, 1-0) forced Revere to punt on the game’s first possession. Then the ground game went to work for English.McDonald and backfield mates Sam Hill and Jermaine Patterson did most of the work on a 12-play, 73-yard march that consumed nearly four minutes. McDonald rushed for 37 yards on the march and capped it with a five-yard keeper and a 7-0 lead after Cory Burt’s extra point.”Tyllor is just a complete athlete,” Holey said. “He really is the engine that drives our offense.”After a Revere punt late in the quarter, the Bulldogs saw a chance to extend the lead vanish when Chris Adreani intercepted a McDonald pass inside the 15 on the first play of the second quarter.Any momentum Revere might have gained off the pick disappeared on the next snap when Trea Weathers fumbled and English recovered at the eight. One play later, Jermaine Patterson powered in from three yards out to make it 14-0.”We get the big interception and then fumble it right away inside the 10,” Cicatelli said. “We shot ourselves in the foot too many times.”Taron Seaforth then intercepted Norton on the third play of Revere’s next possession, returning the ball 22 yards to the Patriot 21. Three plays later, Seaforth paid off the turnover when he caught a dart from McDonald for a 10-yard touchdown and a 20-0 lead. The Bulldogs then dipped into their bag of tricks, recovering Burt’s onside kick at the Revere 49. A holding penalty nullified a touchdown pass to Seaforth, but a pass to Melvin Tavares for 14 yards and an 18-yard scramble by McDonald helped convert a second-and-20.McDonald then hit Ryan Woumn on a crossing pattern and the senior waltzed in for a 26-yard touchdown and a 27-0 lead at the half.It was more of the same at the start of the third quarter as English took the opening kick and drove 51 yards in nine plays. McDonald capped the drive with his third touchdown toss of the night, this one a 13-yarder to Melvin Tavares for a 33-0 lead. Then, after stopping the Patriots on downs, English and McDonald completed the scoring on the first play of the fourth quarter with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Travonne Berry-Rogers.
