The Peabody High boys soccer team clinched the Northeastern Conference Large title Tuesday with a 3-2 win over Classical at Manning Field.The Tanners led 3-1 at the half on goals by Kyle McGlone (2) and Lucas DeOliveira with Matt Rogers and Luke Finklestein getting assists.Miguel Castro, who was named the NEC Large Most Valuable Player in all-star voting this week, scored both Classical goals after the Rams found themselves in a 3-0 hole. Classical (9-5-4) plays English Thursday.Tech 6, North Shore 3At North Shore Tech, the Tigers (9-3-2, 9-1-2) keep getting the job done and if the stars line up right, they can still capture a share of the Commonwealth Conference Large title. Tech has to win on Thursday against Greater Lowell. Pedro Blas and Cristian Paxtor had assists.English 2, Beverly 2At Beverly, the Bulldogs took a 2-0 lead on two goals by Alex Mulbah, but Beverly (3-8-5) fought back with two goals, both by Cam Rogers, late in the game to salvage the tie. English is 6-6-2 and needs to win its final two games (Classical and Swampscott) to qualify for the state tournament. Jefferson Fobellah had an assist for English and George Herrera played well defensively.Swampscott 3, Gloucester 1At Swampscott, an injured Kyle Taylor struggled in the first half, sat for a while and then came back to score a hat trick in the final 20 minutes to lift the Big Blue (6-7-2) to a win. Gloucester had a player thrown out and had to play one-man down for the final 12 minutes. Swampscott keeper D.J. Marquis had 16 saves.Marblehead 5, Winthrop 2At Winthrop, Sam Terrill had a pair of goals with teammates Matt Frankel, Dillon Irving and Malin Segal supplying the rest of the firepower for the Magicians (10-3-4). Frankel also had two assists and Segal, Oliver Kim and Peter Jackson, one assist each. The score was 3-1 at the half.Salem 2, Revere 1At Revere, Edwin DeMoya scored both Salem goals with Revere cutting the lead to one on a goal with less than three minutes to go. The Witches (7-7-3) need a win or a tie in their final game with Beverly Thursday to qualify for the state tournament.Cath. Mem. 3, St. John’s 2At West Roxbury, the game was tied at the half, but Catholic Memorial scored on its only shot of the second half to tip the scales. Matt Kicinski scored his first goal of the season for The Prep. Grant Bean had the other, his third of the year. Will Nuccio played well at center midfield and Steve Pasinski (5 saves) was between the posts.Danvers 5, Saugus 1At Danvers, Dave Velasquez scored for the Sachems, who fall to 2-14-1.
