Cross Country: It’s a sweep for English

The English boys cross country team took the top three spots in a 19-42 win over Classical Tuesday at Lynn Woods.Click here for a photo gallery from both the boys and girls English-Classical meets.Camy Ducasse, Chris Birotte and Jesse Birotte went 1-2-3 with the Rams receiving strong performances from Louis Diaz, Perry Raymond, and Moises Ramirez. Diaz finished fourth overall (20:44). Raymond finished sixth (21:36) and Ramirez, seventh (21:37). It was a three-mile course.Classical coach Chris Hayward was proud of his team’s performance.”All my kids ran very well today. It was a very close and competitive race,” Hayward said.Winthrop 15, Saugus 50At Winthrop, Winthrop’s Jake Connors set the pace in this 2.7-mile race. Connors finished first (15:41). Nick Floyd, fourth (16:41), and Brian Manning, seventh (17:29). Winthrop is 1-6.Peabody 15, Revere 47At Revere, Peabody’s depth was the key as the Tanners took the top six spots in the 2.9-mile race. Jake Timenta finished first (17:14) and Joe Gallo, second (17:14). Revere had personal bests from Chris Panzini, seventh (18:10); Robert Driscoll, eighth (18:13); and Anthony Cantone-Heinze, ninth (18:20).Peabody finished the season 7-0 and won its third straight NEC championship.N. Reading 27, Lynnfield 30At Lynnfield, Lynnfield had personal bests from Jeff Cook, fourth (16:57), and Andrew Drinkwater, sixth (17:01). Sam Oliveri finished first for Lynnfield and third overall (16:44). Lynnfield finished the season at 6-6.GIRLS CROSS COUNTRYEnglish 26, Classical 31At Lynn Woods, English’s Bianca Fowler finished first and Kelly Roland third in a three-mile race. For Classical, Katie Thongchanh finished second overall (25:00); Courtney Speropolous, fifth (25:48); and Alicia Worthylake, seventh (26:44).Winthrop 27, Saugus 31At Winthrop, Winthrop’s Jordan Griffith led the pack with a time of 17:26 over 2.7 miles. Caitlyn Percy finished third (18:26) and Michaela McCarthy, sixth (19:02). Winthrop is 2-5.Revere 27, Peabody 30At Revere, Peabody had the top two finishers, but Revere’s depth was the difference in this 2.9-mile race. Revere had the third through fifth place finishers. Peabody’s Jenna Pickard finished first overall (18:50). Brittani Atkinson finished second overall (19:17). Stephanie Raymond finished sixth overall (20:14).Lynnfield 20, N. Reading 35At Lynnfield, the Pioneers had the second through sixth place finishers: Sammi Albanese (19:30), Lexi Buonfiglio (19:52), Angelica Kurpsounis (20:15), Mia Deluccia (20:27), and Patty Kloza (20:51). Lynnfield finished the season at 7-5. This was the team’s best record in the last five years.
