Revere voters reject condom question

REVERE – Voters knocked John Correggio off the City Council Tuesday night and added Stephen Reardon to its ranks in addition to sending Stacey Rizzo to the School Committee.With nearly 36 percent of the voters casting ballots, local residents also rejected the ballot question suspending birth control distribution at the high school health center by a 3,404-2,695 vote. Over 2,410 blank votes were cast in the ballot question voting.Council President Daniel Rizzo finished first in the at-large race with 3,793 votes followed by Councilor Robert Haas with 3,574 and George Colella who finished third with 3,528 votes. Former Ward 4 Councilor George Rotondo won an at-large seat with his 3,258-vote fourth place finish and Anthony Zambuto finished fifth with 2,650 votes to hold onto his council seat.Reardon succeeds Rotondo in Ward 4, winning 621 votes to beat Ricky Freni and Joseph Lavino. Incumbent ward councilors Ira Novoselsky, Arthur Guinasso and John Powers beat their challengers. Councilors James Kimmerle and Charles Patch were unopposed in Tuesday’s voting.Carol Tye won 4,128 votes to finish first in School Committee balloting followed by Michael Ferrante who received 3,582 votes with committeeman Dan Maguire finishing third with 3,069 votes. Rizzo won a committee seat with her 3,046 vote finish followed by Donna Wood Pruitt who received 3,029 votes. Committeeman Frederick Sannella finished sixth with 3,021 votes.Ferrante voted against the health center condom distribution last February along with Ann Raponi who lost her committee seat last night.
