Northeast Regional stomps Tech

WAKEFIELD – Tech’s football team ran into a buzz saw on Saturday afternoon by the name of Northeast. The Tigers suffered their worst loss of the season, falling to the Golden Knights (who were armed with the memory of a 40-0 loss the previous year to Tech) 48-0.”As well as we played last week,” Tigers coach Gary Sverker said, “we were outplayed this week.”It was a nightmare first quarter for Tech (6-3), which turned the ball over on three-out-of-four possessions in the first quarter. Donato DiPietranto hooked up with Zack Allen at the nearside pylon for a 21-yard touchdown pass to get the scoring started.”They capitalized on every mistake that we made,” said Sverker.Mike Cain had a monster day on both sides of the ball for the Golden Knights. He picked off Tigers’ quarterback Dustin Rooney three times, including a 48 and 38 yard touchdown return. Cain rushed for 61 yards on five carries, including an 11-yard first quarter touchdown. His effort earned him the Ed Repucci award, for game MVP.Sophomore Bobby Novello actually led all rushers with 85 yards to along with a touchdown. The second quarter didn’t go much better, and the Tigers headed into halftime losing 36-0.To make matters worse, Tech was without Ryan Murphy, one of the team leaders on both sides of the ball. Murphy missed the game with a deep bruise in his thigh. Sverker did indicate that Murphy would most likely return to action next week against Greater Lawrence. The Tigers only got off five plays in the second half. The Knights (4-5) wing-t offense managed to drain the clock with extreme efficiency. The Tigers only managed 35 yards of offense.David Mover was a major bright spot for the Tigers. He had a particularly strong performance on the defensive side of the ball – Including a sack in which he was seemingly tackling DiPietranto as soon as the ball was snapped. Mover was awarded the Ricky Drislane trophy, as the Tigerss’ MVP.”He had a real good game,” said Sverker. “I’m very proud of him.”
