The Lynnfield High volleyball team is heading to the Division 3 North final thanks to a 3-0 win over Fellowship Christian Academy Friday at Methuen. The Pioneers won their sets by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-22.”It was an exciting match,” coach Michelle Perrone said. “We came out and played very strong in the first set and that let us kind of control the rest of the match.”The Pioneers will come right back today and play for the North title against Notre Dame of Tyngsborough at Andover at 1 p.m. The semifinal was originally scheduled for Thursday night, but was moved to Friday because the sister of Lynnfield High player Abby Shove was killed in an automobile accident in Maine and the wake was Thursday.”It was a very tiring week, both emotionally and physically,” Perrone saidJunior outside hitter Kelsey Mancini had four aces and six kills for the Pioneers. Senior captain Christina Moccia, also an outside hitter, had six aces and eight kills and senior captain Andrea Simonelli, a setter, had seven aces and 16 assists.Lynnfield, which missed qualifying for the state tournament by a game last year, is 12-9.”The Cape Ann League is a very strong volleyball league,” Perrone said. “I knew once we qualified, we could win some matches in the tournament.”BOYS SOCCERConcord-Carlisle 2, Danvers 0At Woburn, the Falcons (15-3-4) saw their tournament run come to an end in the Division 2 North semifinals against a very tough team.”We definitely got outclassed today,” Danvers coach Antonio Lage said. “Not to take anything away from us, but Concord-Carlisle is in a class of its own.”The game was scoreless at the half, but the Patriots finally broke the ice 15-20 minutes into the second half and then added a little insurance. Danvers had a couple of scoring chances, but the Patriots’ goalie was up to the challenge.”They’re very organized, very disciplined,” Lage said, adding that no matter how deep they went on the bench, they didn’t seem to lose anything.”They attack with nine guys. They’re up and down. They really know how to play ball,” he said.Concord-Carlisle, the No. 8 seed, will play Wilmington Monday at 5 p.m. at Manning Field in the final.FOOTBALLSalem 10, Revere 7At Bertram Field, the Patriots had a shot at pulling this one out with an 80-yard drive in the final few minutes, but time ran out with the ball on the Salem 15.Revere scored first on a Trea Weathers one-yard run in the first quarter, but Salem tied the game by the half and went up 10-7 early in the fourth quarter. Weathers ran the ball well, picking up about 135 yards.”My defense played their hearts out,” Revere coach Lou Cicatelli said. “They gave us a chance at the end. They stopped them inside the 10 and that gave us the ball back.”Chris Adreani and Will Weathers played well on defense for Revere, which falls to 2-8.
