Walsh brings home Division 3 cross country title

In what can only be described as atrocious conditions, Swampscott’s Lindsay Walsh outshined the rest of the competition and finished first in the Eastern Mass Division 3 race.”I showed up to Franklin Park with my ski jacket on,” Walsh said. “It was just miserable out. We got absolutely drenched. There were lakes out on the course and there was no going around them, you had to go through them.”Walsh toughed the elements and delivered a time of 19:06, which was 14 seconds faster than the next girl in any division.”Lindsay Walsh showed that she is not only the best runner in Division 3,” Swampscott coach Dom Finelli said, “but she is arguably the best runner in the entire state.As a team the Big Blue finished fourth with an average time of 21:40, 1:37 off of the pace of the champions Bishop Feehan. Amelia Antrim had the second best time (21:28) on the team. Hannah King (22:34), Karyssa King (22:23) and Nikki Laskaris (22:37) were the other three members of Swampscott with qualifying times.The Big Blue’s arch-nemesis Marblehead placed sixth with a time of 22:04. The Magicians also had five runners finish in the top 100: Chloe Hasket, 23rd (21:18); Maura Tubridy, 24th (21:18); Madeline Piela, 40th (21:51); Claire Depew, 53rd (22:25); and Lillie Johnston, 90th (23:24).Danvers had four runners place in the top 100: Haley Dyer, 11th (20:24); Rachel Kaczynski, 39th (21:49); Molly Lueke, 74th (23:02); and Rebecca MacInnis, 92nd (23:25).Beverly had two top 10 performers in the Division 2 race: Monica Adler, second (19:31); and Millie Chapman, ninth (20:20). They finished ninth with an average time of 21:44, 1:03 off of the pace of the champions Wellesley. The Panthers had two other girls finish in the top-100: Jessica Gomes, 69th (22:20); and Brenna Bailey, 93rd (22:56).Lynnfield had the best finish in the area in the Division 4 race, placing 14th. The Pioneers had two runners place in the top 100: Sammi Albanese, 55th (23:49); and Lexi Buonfiglio, 57th (23:51).Fenwick placed 21st and had three runners finish in the top 100: Marial Quezada, 74th (24:17); Megan Wookcock, 81st (24:24); and Hanah Smith, 82nd (24:27).Peabody had three girls finish in the top 100 in the division 1 race: Brittani Atkinson, 57th (22:49); Jenna Pickard, 64th (22:57); and Stephanie Raymond, 65th (22:57).BOYS CROSS COUNTRYSt. John’s had impressive showing in the boys Division 1 race. The Eagles placed third with an average time of 17:36, only 17 seconds off of the pace of first place Lowell. All seven of their competitors finished in the top 100: AJ Rossi, sixth (17:03); Ben Halpin, 24th (17:36); Jarrett Harrigan, 30th (17:46); John Flanagan, 37th (17:52); Chris Oesterlin, 74th (18:27); and Peter Heffrin, 88th (18:44).”It was a complete quagmire over there,” St. John’s coach Ray Carey said. “There may have been a day worse than that but I can’t remember one. I thought the kids did a great job.”Peabody had four runners place in the top 100: Evan Braz, ninth (17:09); Nick Christiansen, 25th (17:37); TJ D’Amato, 40th (17:54); and Keane Terenzoni, 90th (18:47).Marblehead also finished in third place in the Division 3 race with a time of 17:50, 46 seconds off of first place Pembroke’s pace. All seven Magicians finished in the top 100: James Wigglesworth, eighth (17:16); Tucker Reece, 10th (17:24); Will Herlihy, 28th (17:47); Henry Pratt, 44th (18:09); Andrew Graf, 68th (18:30); Patrick Casey, 83rd (18:47); Mike Harper, 93rd (18:55).Swampscott’s boys team finished only a minute off of the Magicians pace, however finished 14th overall. The Big Blue had four of the top 100 finishers; Nick Hartmann, 76th (18:39); Jake Conaty, 77th (18:40); Casey Collins, 81st (18:45); and Shiloh Clar, 90th (18:54).Chris Chapruet was Danvers lone runner to finish in the top 100. He placed 33rd with a time of 18:00.Fenwick placed sixth in the Division 4 race. The Crusaders had six of the top 100 finishes; Bill Harrington, eighth (17:37); Andrew Young, 47th (18:45); Kevin Fini, 61st (19:06);
