LYNN – No matter the time of year, all parents want to raise their children in a safe and loving environment. For Lisa (not her real name) this meant moving her children into a new apartment and asking for help from the members of her community to give her children a joyful holiday.”I’m a single mom of three beautiful kids,” Lisa writes. “Due to having to move to a new apartment because my old apartment was not safe for children, I cannot afford a Christmas and to pay the rent too.”Lisa has two little girls. Isabella is a year and a half old and wears clothing that is sized 18 months. Melissa is five and wears a size 5+. Her son, Liam, is 8 years old and wears a size 9/10.Lisa is not the only single mother who needs your help this holiday season.Jessica is a mother of two toddlers who recently lost her husband overseas. Devastation over her loss and the grief of her children has kept her out of work, leaving her unable to afford to put a tree in their small apartment, let alone gifts to put under it.”I couldn’t bear to send my children to school in tears each morning. They are too young to really understand why their daddy isn’t going to be home like he promised. I am a grown woman and I barely understand, but I know I need to be there for my children,” Jessica writes. “The thought of going to work and leaving them sends me into a panic. Because of this I can’t afford to give my kids the Christmas that they deserve and truly need this year. I hope there are people out there who can help us.”This year, remember to add a few extra spots to your shopping list for families like Lisa’s and Jessica’s.
