LYNN – A bicyclist was injured on Thursday afternoon in a collision with a motor vehicle at the intersection of Chestnut and Adams streets around 4 p.m. He was taken to an area hospital while Lynn police officers tried to recreate the accident scene to determine how it occurred.According to Jerry Martinez, 22, of 21 Ridgeway St., the driver of the involved motor vehicle, the unidentified bicyclist was traveling on Adams Street downhill toward Chestnut Street where traffic was moving through the intersection along Chestnut Street. Martinez said he was traveling about 20 miles per hour through the intersection in the direction of Western Avenue when the bicyclist slammed into his front driver’s side door.”The light was green, so I was proceeding through the intersection and, in the middle of the intersection, he just came right down the hill and crashed into the side of the car,” Martinez said. “There was a lot of traffic and as soon as it happened, a bunch of witnesses came out.”Martinez said he and his two passengers quickly got out of the car to see what had happened and make sure other vehicles didn’t hit the victim, Martinez’s car or the bicycle.”We kept asking if he was okay and he wasn’t responding, but he was breathing,” Martinez said. “Once we knew he was breathing, we tried not to touch him or move him and called the police right away.”Martinez’s car suffered damage where the bicycle impacted it, most noticeably a large dent in the front driver’s side door.Lynn Police were not available for comment on the condition of the victim or any charges that may be filed.
