Two stabbed outside Lynn Union Street eatery

LYNN – A Georgia man and a Lynn man were stabbed in a fight outside Charlie Chan’s, 170 Union St., shortly after midnight Friday.Police responding to the stabbing ended up charging Duane Patrick, 30, of 237 Chatham St., with armed assault to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.According to a Lynn police report, Steven Patrick, 52, of Georgia, Duane Patrick’s uncle, says he was hanging around outside the restaurant when he saw Cheryl Gillette, 47, homeless, and Rolando Cruz, 25, of 47 Estes St., arguing.Steven Patrick said he told Cruz to stop yelling at Gillette because he thought Cruz was going to hit the woman.”As soon as I stepped back he started stabbing me,” Steven Patrick, who was stabbed twice, told police.Steven Patrick, who police found lying across the passenger seat of a car with people applying pressure to his wounds, was transported to Salem Hospital and treated for two non-life threatening stab wounds.Duane Patrick told police Cruz came at him with a box cutter. “I took the box cutter from him and I cut the mother ?,” Duane Patrick said. “He pissed me off so I (messed) him up.”According to the report, police found a small folding knife in Duane Patrick’s right boot. The knife handle and blade were covered in blood.Police said they found Cruz lying on the ground when they arrived and saw Gillette kicking him. Gillette was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot).Gillette and Duane Patrick pleaded innocent in District Court on Friday and were ordered held until they return to court for dangerousness hearings on Dec. 10.Cruz, who suffered face and neck stab wounds, was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston where he is listed in stable but serious condition.Cruz could be charged in connection with the triple stabbing after police interview him today.
