Husband’s surgery, recovery set family of three back financially

LYNN – When the unexpected happens, it is often reassuring to know that there are places to turn when you are in need of help, however scary it may be to ask for it.Erin (not her real name) is the mother of an 8-year-old girl and is unable to provide her with Christmas gifts this year after her husband sustained an injury that required him to have surgery, requiring 10 weeks of recovery.”Even after the 10-week recovery period, he will not be employed until he can find suitable work that he is able to do. He has been a carpenter for over 30 years and it is very doubtful he will be able to perform that type of work anymore,” Erin wrote. “His injury was a ruptured distal bicep in his dominant right arm. He had the same injury to his left arm 3 years ago.”Recovering from his first surgery was not as easy. Three more surgeries were performed before they discovered that the initial surgery was done incorrectly. A fifth surgery fixed the problem, but he was only able to work inconsistently for short periods of time during his nearly two year recovery.”We fell further behind in our bills but were getting back on our feet when his second injury occurred. I am employed full time at a hospital, but I do not make enough money to even cover monthly expenses, let alone plan for Christmas presents for my 8-year-old daughter,” wrote Erin.Being a part of a community means standing up and helping a neighbor, whether they live next door or on the other side of town. It means helping with whatever tools are available to you. Even a small donation helps make Christmas possible for area families.Click here to make a donation to Item Santa. For more information, call the Salvation Army at 781-598-0673.
