Matt Rodgers scored his 100th career point last night on a second period goal, while his linemate Andrew Bucci netted a hat trick to lead Peabody’s hockey team past Beverly, 6-2.”(Rodgers) is a very talented kid,” Tanners coach Matt Leonard said. “It honestly couldn’t have happened to a nicer kid. He works extremely hard and I’m proud of him.”Rodgers finished the day with a goal and a pair of assists. His other linemate, Derrik Pereira, had four assists.”They (Bucci, Pereira and Rodgers) work very well together,” said Leonard. “They are very familiar with each other and are all talented.”Derek Savage turned away 26 shots for the Tanners (3-0), while Tony Walsh turned away 32 for the Panthers.Troy Cabral scored both of Beverly’s (1-2) goals.Lynn 4, Fenwick 0At Connery Rink, the Jets (3-1) got scoring from four different players: Bucky Surette, Jeff Porter, John Finnigan and Kyle Martin. Craig McDaniel picked up the shutout.”When we play an aggressive, in-your-face brand of hockey we can be very successful,” Lynn coach Joe Conlon said. “It’s all about being consistent in every shift.”St. Mary’s 5, Medford 0At Connery Rink, Brendan Mageary scored a pair of goals and added an assist to record his first career varsity points. His linemates, Julian Yourawski (goal, assist) and Bobby Mullins (3 assists), also helped out.”That line (Mageary, Mullins and Yourawski) played tenacious tonight,” St. Mary’s coach Mark Lee said. “It’s good to see their hard play rewarded with some points.”Justin Levine and Derek Stella scored the other two goals. Levine added an assist. Donald Hesse recorded the shutout.Swampscott 5, Salem 0At Rockett Arena, the Big Blue (2-1) outshot the Witches 36-6. Sean Lannon and Gino Cresta each netted a pair of goals. Cresta also had an assist. Colby Wollerschied added a pair of assists. Tyler Gallagher recorded the shutout.Marblehead 2, Saugus 0At Kasabuski Rink, Jake Kulevich had a whale of game at the blue line for the Magicians (3-0). Nick Hegarty turned away 40 shots for the Sachems (1-1-1).Winthrop 4, Danvers 0At Danvers, Alex Hamilton netted a pair of goals for the Vikings (3-1). Pat Feeley recorded his second consecutive shutout.In other North Shore hockey action, Revere tied Gloucester 4-4 and St. John’s fell to Hingham 3-2 with Collin Blackwell scoring an unassisted goal for the Eagles and Andrew Pierce scoring with the assist going to Derek Palm.GIRLS HOCKEYBeverly 2, Marblehead 1At O’Maley Rink, Lexi Lang scored an unassisted goal in the second period to give the Magicians (1-2) a 1-0 lead. Unfortunately Marblehead couldn’t find the back of the net again despite putting 36 shots at Brianna Jackson in net. Molly Detew made 17 saves for Marblehead.WRESTLINGLynnfield 34, Malden Catholic 30At Malden, the Pioneers (4-2) had eight winners: Paulo Settipane (103), Nick McGrath (130), Trent Taylor (140), Adam Flemme (145), Chris O’Connor (152), Matt Cone (160), Jay Godding (171) and Nikko Burtman (215).
