The Eagles had a pretty good showing, placing in four different relays.”It is nice to have some good competition so early in the season,” St. John’s coach Ray Carey said. “I think we made some major improvements today.”The high jump relay team, which consisted of Jack Durkin, James Byman and Mike Hayes, had the strongest performance of the day. They came in second with a cumulative jump of 17-1. John Flanagan, Ben Halpin, Jon Touchette and Chris Oesterlin placed fourth in the 4×800 (8:29.6). Swampscott dominated second-place finishes, taking all but one. English’s first-place finishers were: Richard Kimber, 55 hurdles (8.1); Zach Adie, 55 (7.2); Camy Ducasse, 300 (39.2); Jesse Birotte, 1,000 (2:54); and 4×400 (3:48.9). Swampscott’s five first-place finishers were: Matt Nardiello, high jump (5-4); Dave Wilson, shot put (39-3); Kyle Taylor, 600 (1:37.9); Jake Conaty, mile (5:02.2); and Trevor Whelan, 2-mile (12:43).Salem 59, Saugus 27At Swampscott, Ben Dibble had a pair of first-place finishes for the Witches: high jump (5-8) and 55 hurdles (8.3).
